AP/HONORS COURSES PROGRAM
/ ACADEMICS
01
The Advanced Placement (AP) program by the College Board is designed for students who are interested in taking college-level courses while attending high school. To learn more about the recognizability of this program, visit the International College Board. Honors courses are similar to regular courses but are more rigorous. Both options provide students with the chance to distinguish themselves to universities. Not only they worth more points (0.5 more for Honors courses and 1.5 more points for Advanced Placement courses) and can help boost a student's Grade Point Average (GPA), but they also serve to better prepare students for university. Statistics have shown that students who study AP courses in high school are more likely to be accepted in universities, do better during university, and complete their university degrees.
Most universities in both the USA and Europe greatly value high scores in AP level courses, and some require 2 to 3 at the time of application. The fully-accredited AP courses we offer satisfy national and international requirements.
The end result: A high school diploma with AP level courses - the best in its class! Furthermore, a combination of AP courses can also lead to an additional diploma (similar to A-levels and the IB diploma).
Please note that this program can be combined with our full or hybrid high school program.

02
/ PROGRAM OUTLINE AND WORLD RECOGNITION
AP is recognized as a highly desirable academic credential around the globe. Universities in over 80 countries outside the United States recognize AP in the admissions process. Universities which recognize AP Exam scores for advanced placement give the opportunity to skip introductory-level courses or award credit or points toward an undergraduate degree. To check acceptance in other countries, click here: AP International Recognition.
The American High School of Bulgaria offers Honors and AP courses to all students in 11th and 12th grade. We encourage students to strive for greatness and to excel in all of their academic achievements. AP courses offered include the following disciplines:
-
AP US History, AP Government, AP World History, AP European History, AP Psychology and other AP Social Studies
-
AP English Literature and Composition
-
AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and other Sciences
-
AP Macro and Microeconomics
-
AP Mathematics (Statistics, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, etc.)
Please note that Advanced Placement Courses and Honors courses have the same expectations with the added intensity of being college-level courses. For that reason, only students with high grades and recommendations from their teachers/principal qualify.

The deadline to register for these exams is NOVEMBER 1, and the cost of the exam must be paid to the College Board as well as to the center where the exam will be held.
In 2027, AHSB will become an AP Testing Center. Please inquire for more information.

In order to increase your chances of university acceptance, whether in the USA or elsewhere in the world, you need to obtain high scores in at least 3 AP/HONORS level courses.
